Beech Autumn

In English we are looking at the book 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne. We will explore the feelings of the characters in the books and how pictures help to tell the story. Then we will create our own version of the story where a toy becomes a real animal!

We have just started to look at the book 'The Barnabus Project'. We will continue to explorer the feelings of characters in the story as well as create recipes for the 'perfect pet'!
Trip to Thackray medical museum
Beech had a fantastic time at Thackray Medical Museum. We participated in a Swing it, Shake it, Move it workshop that got us to move our bodies and think about the bones and muscles that are in our bodies.
After, we explored the museum and saw things that made us go 'WOW!' as well as 'EW!' (particularly in the Poo Lab!)
More pictures can be found in the Thackray Medical Museum photo album.

Black history month
During Black History Month, we discussed the importance of celebrating different races and the importance of respecting each other.
We created art based off of a black female artist called Alma Thomas.
Also, we discussed the feelings of characters in the book 'Coming to England' by Floella Benjamin.

Scientists exploring magnetism
In Science, we have started to explore magnetism using magnets. We explored different objects around the classroom to check if they were magnetic or not.

Paper computer systems
Beech class have been learning about how a computer system works. We started to look at how a server helps to store lots of information. To help visualise this, we worked together to transport pieces of paper around the room and see how they were gathered. The children were able to see how the paper was easier to collect when we used a box (server) to collect our information.

Stone Age House making
Beech class have been enjoying learning about the Stone Age in History this term. To help explore how Stone Age houses might have looked, Beech class were challenged with creating their own Mesolithic Stone Age house. They all look fantastic!
