Ashfield Visions and Values linked to RE Curriculum

Visions and Values linked to RE

At Ashfield, we want our children to experience:

  • a safe environment with secure boundaries;
  • a forward thinking curriculum with activities to inspire and shape their thinking;
  • challenges in which they can apply their perseverance and go on to succeed.

The RE curriculum will give our children the opportunity to see other people's points of view and nurture an environment of respect and tolerance. We want our children to value the opinions of others to prepare them for their future lives in the hope they will contribute to a more tolerant society. We want to equip our children with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions,

A curriculum which inspires children to ask questions and find answers for themselves – not waiting to be spoon fed.

RE offers the chance to decide for themselves using evidence from a variety of sources.  Deciding an answer for themselves is not the easy way so it encourages children to embrace challenge and to think critically

We want our children to be:

  • passionate and motivated about learning with inquisitive, creative minds;
  • resilient risk takers who embrace challenge;
  • critical thinkers who will grow up to be successful citizens of the future;

Children will develop knowledge and understanding of religious and world views, particularly allowing exploration of questions relating to meaning, purpose and values, and develop a curiosity about these. RE offers the chance  for children to decide for themselves using evidence from a variety of sources.  Deciding an answer for themselves is not the easy way so it encourages children to embrace challenge and to think critically

  • happy, caring, inclusive and nurturing of others.

We want our children to value the opinions of others to prepare them for their future lives in the hope they will contribute to a more tolerant society.

We want our staff to be:

  • be welcoming, visible and approachable;
  • be positive and value everyone equally;
  • provide stimulating learning experiences and guide children to succeed in all aspects of their development;
  • encourage children to be resilient and independent.

RE at Ashfield offers pupils the chance to develop knowledge and understanding of religious and world views, particularly allowing exploration of questions relating to meaning, purpose and values, and develop a curiosity about these.

We want our parents to:

  • support their children at home, in school and develop positive relationships with staff.

We want our governors to:

  • to question, be reflective, supportive, professional and impartial;
  • promote our Ashfield ethos.

RE at Ashfield offers children opportunities to investigate and reflect on the beliefs and practices of religious and other world views to deepen their understanding. Teaching takes place in a learning context which values the children’s knowledge and

experiences. Visits out of school and visitors into school play an important part in enriching children’s experiences. Children are encouraged to handle, observe and talk about religious artefacts with sensitivity. RE is taught in a fun and imaginative way, using cross-curricular opportunities as often as possible. Children are given opportunities for discussion and debate around key principles for religious and other world views.
